IS THE CHRISTIAN CHURCH FACING EXTINCTION?
Trust in organized religion seems to be at an all-time low. Where did it all start?
Join Pastors Shawn Boonstra and Pastor Volody for a 3-night series of A Pale Horse Rides starting on Friday, April 12, 2024 as they journey to find the root of the problem…and a potential solution! Discover key events that set the stage for the church’s current crisis and meet a heroic barbarian tribe whose resolve to follow the Bible alone lit the fire for a radical Reformation.
During this world’s darkest hours, many men and women risked it all for the faith they believed in. What really motivated these people? Was it lunacy, stubbornness—or something more?
Join us on a journey that begins in the ashes of Rome and culminates in a fiery Reformation that changed the world. These secretive believers faced a peril like none before. Their stories of faith and fortitude will inspire you.
Pastor Shawn Boonstra will take us to history in his documentary series while Pastor Volody Nesteruk will lead a discussion in live sessions.
* SESSION 1 APRIL 12 AT 6 PM: “ROME IS BURNING” - The Roman Empire was once the most powerful force in the Western world. But tragically, it all went down in flames. What happened, and what can we learn from its downfall?
* SESSION 2 APRIL 19 AT 6 PM: “BARBARIAN FIRE” - We turn to a remarkable tale about an isolated group of barbarians who, almost overnight, converted to Christianity—and forever changed history. Their rich legacy can inspire us today.
* SESSION 3 APRIL 26 AT 6 PM: “AN UNDERGROUND MOVEMENT” - Finally, we explore an intriguing semi-secret movement that risked life and limb for truth, defied the odds, and paved the way for Martin Luther.
This series will address questions such as:
1. What happened to the Christian churches outside of the Roman Empire?
2. How, exactly, did our ancestors become Christians?
3. How does the Bible deal with the fact that Christians are sometimes less than Christ-like?
4. What would the church look like without the merger of church and state?
5. How can we have the strong faith of our ancestors?
Spokane Linwood Adventist Church is thrilled to be hosting this series. A Pale Horse Rides will involve both documentary-style and live elements, featuring local moderator.
All are welcome to attend this free event, and all attendees will receive a copy of Boonstra’s new book, A Pale Horse Rides.
